The Alzheimer Society recognizes that caregivers reaching the final stage of caregiving deserve continued compassionate support after the death of the caregiver. Our organization offers “Growing Through Grief – Redefining your life after caregiving”, an 8-week bereavement support and educational program for caregivers which discusses issues such as: talking to friends and family, coping with sadness and loneliness, and dealing with new roles and responsibilities.

Supportive services to the bereaved. Bereaved Families of Ontario is a self-help, mutual aid organization dedicated particularly to supporting parents who have lost a child and children who have lost a sibling or parent. The organization provides the following monthly share and support evenings which are not suitable for children: Mother's Share and Support Evening - second Tuesday of each month from 7:30 - 9:30pm, Family Share & Support Evening - third Tuesday of each month from 7:30 - 9:30 pm. As well as the support evenings one-on-one meetings are provided and, when suitable, a small eight-week closed support group.

In-Hospital Service: Bereavement support, education, inpatient consultation, inpatient facility (6 bed Palliative Care Unit), nursing visits, pain & symptom management, physician visits, respite care, spiritual / pastoral support, volunteer support. In Home Service: Bereavement support, day program, education, home consultation services, nursing visits, pain & symptom management, respite care, spiritual/pastoral support, volunteer support. Grief Support and Resource Centre Supportive services to the bereaved including: a monthly grief support meeting featuring guest speakers or videos, weekly grief walking group and a bi-monthly newsletter, as well as a resource lending library. One-on-one counseling provided upon request. Annual Ecumenical Celebration of Life Service. The Volunteer Hospice Service of Leeds & Grenville Volunteer visiting provides comfort measures, respite for families, companionship and social support as well as grief and bereavement support. Trained volunteers have all received a 30-hour palliative care training course

Community Health Services, inspired and supported by the Canadian Red Cross, works in partnership with the client and others to offer personalized and compassionate care through quality health services in the community to enhance the wellbeing of people at vulnerable times in their lives. Personal Care – bathing, grooming, assistance with dressing, toileting, and transfers. Home Management – meal preparation, grocery shopping, errands, light housekeeping and laundry. Respite and Companion Care – caregiver/family relief and accompaniment to appointments. Health Equipment Loan Program (HELP) - The Red Cross takes a lead role in providing a short-term loan service for those requiring portable health-care equipment. Generally, the equipment is used while recovering at home from injury, illness or surgery, short-term use while waiting for equipment for long term use and short-term use while remaining at home receiving hospice care. The Red Cross remains unique in that it offers an affordable solution for clients who are not able to pay the for profit cost for equipment.
